Chennai: In a rare incident, a man hailing from Tamil Nadu has bought a car just by using coins RS 10 coins as he was frustrated with people not accepting the same.
Employees of a prominent vehicle dealer in Dharmapuri were in for a major surprise when a man entered the showroom with a vehicle stacked with Rs 10 coins to buy a car.
The man has been identified as Vetrivel and is a resident of Arur in Tamil Nadu. As per him, his mother runs a shop and came across several instances when customers refused to accept Rs 10 coins, which led to a large heap of those coins stacking up at his home.
He also said how he was astonished to see kids playing with Rs 10 coins as if they were worthless. Therefore, he decided to raise awareness by buying a car with only Rs 10 coins.
Vetrivel spent nearly a month collecting Rs 10 coins worth Rs 6 lakh to buy the car. The dealership initially hesitated to accept the coins as the mode of payment but later, they changed their mind and agreed to the deal after considering Vetrivel's determination.
"My mother runs a shop and the coins are at home only. No one is ready to accept the coins. Even banks are not ready to accept claiming that there are not many people to count them. When the RBI has not said that the coins are worthless, why aren't banks accepting them? Even if we complain, no action is taken", Vetrivel told the media.
He carried sacks filled with Rs 10 coins into the showroom with the help of his relatives. They were all counted after which, the vehicle keys were finally handed over to him.
